v1.18.0 β Everything your agents make, at full size
We've been better at making things than at showing them. An agent would build a report and hand you a grey icon. It would draw a chart into a PDF and hand you an empty box. It would write a formula mid-sentence and leave it at body-text size.
This release is the second half of that sentence.
Word and Excel render in place
A .docx or .xlsx used to show a grey icon over "File preview not available" β everywhere, whatever made it. Now a Word file renders as its actual pages and a spreadsheet as a table with one tab per sheet, at full page and in an external tab like everything else.
Artifacts open at full page
Opening an artifact used to land you on chrome: breadcrumbs, a title row, an action row and a docked chat around a pane capped at 60% of the window.
Of the 19 kinds of content we recognise, 15 have a rendered form that pane made worse β and none of them opened into anything bigger. Now they default to the full-page rendering they deserve, the mode lives in the address so Back and refresh both do the obvious thing, and Escape finally closes an overlay.
Formulas, molecules and geometries, mid-sentence
Fenced blocks got a card; the same content inside a sentence got nothing. Maths was the sharpest case because it looked handled β it was typeset correctly, so it was easy to miss that there was no viewer for it anywhere in the app.
A hint icon now appears beside a formula, a SMILES string, or a geometry as it arrives, and opens onto something that draws it β a curve with its roots, a structure, a map. Each pop-out is its own tab, so two can stay open at once.
Charts in a PDF get drawn
The quiet, expensive one. Hundreds of agents draw charts as a canvas that a script fills in. The PDF renderer ran no scripts β so it returned success, a valid PDF, and an empty box, and the agent, unable to see its own output, said the report was finished.
Documents that paint with a script now go through a browser engine. Every PDF also carries a verdict the agent can read, so when a chart genuinely can't be drawn it tells you instead of handing over the file.
Also in this release
- A welcome deck waiting in every new Library β its slides are a live diagram, live code and a live sortable table, not screenshots of them. Delete it and it stays deleted.
- GLM 5.3, selectable on every tier, same price and same 1M context as 5.2. Nothing was retired.
- Six models were billed at a rate nobody is charged β a struck-through list price or a cancelled increase pre-loaded early. Sonnet 5 mattered most, at 1.5Γ on the default model. All six now bill at the real rate.
- The pricing page says only what is true. A sold tier advertised API access and priority support; neither exists. Both are gone, and the feature list is now built from things that actually ship.
- Account deletion works end to end β 90-day recovery, then an erase across all six stores. Self-serve is deliberately not switched on yet; ask us and we'll run it in full.
- Alarms that fire when the product is broken. Every alarm before this release came from inside the stack, so a backend erroring on every request moved none of them.
Make something, then actually look at it. What should we build next?
