Stop an agent from repeating itself
New in v1.6.0: the agent editor has a repetition controls section with two dials that discourage a model from leaning on the same words and phrases. Most agents never need them — but when an agent gets repetitive, they're the fix.
The two dials
- Frequency — the higher you set it, the more the model is penalized for reusing a word the more often it has already used it. Good for stamping out a word or phrase that keeps coming back.
- Presence — penalizes a word simply for having appeared at all, which pushes the model toward new topics and fresher vocabulary. Good for more variety and range.
When to reach for them
- An agent that echoes the same phrasing every few sentences → nudge frequency up.
- An agent whose answers feel samey or stuck on one angle → nudge presence up.
- Creative and brainstorming agents that should roam → a little of both.
Good to know
- The controls only appear on models that support them — so you never set a knob that does nothing.
- Start small. A gentle nudge goes a long way; large values can make an agent avoid words it actually needs.
- It's a per-agent setting, so you can loosen up a brainstorming agent while leaving a precise, factual agent untouched.
